About Dr. Tootell

Dr. Anne Tootell is the Therapy Director at Stratus Mental Health Center. Dr. Tootell earned her BA in clinical neuroscience at Scripps College and her PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park. Anne is intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ExRP), and specializes in trauma interventions including DBT PTSD and Prolonged Exposure Therapy.

Dr. Tootell specializes in adapting these evidence-based treatments to specific client needs within a trauma informed framework. She is particularly interested in the role of childhood trauma and complex trauma in the development and treatment of anxiety and mood disorders, substance use, self-harm behaviors, interpersonal conflict, poor self-esteem, and personality disorders.

Additionally, Dr. Tootell believes discussion of intersectional identities (e.g. race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation) throughout treatment is crucial for the therapeutic relationship and effective treatment implementation.
